The German Society for Infectious Diseases (DGI) led an international working group to produce the first global guideline for personalized phage therapy. The guideline aims to set standards for using phages against hard-to-treat infections, offering a structured approach for clinicians.

The development involved 20 professional organizations and 18 international experts, including representatives from regulatory agencies and two patient representatives. This broad collaboration is intended to align practices across countries and provide a framework for individualized treatment decisions.

The guideline marks a step toward standardizing a treatment that has often been used on a case-by-case basis. By bringing together experts and regulators, it provides a common reference for personalized phage therapy in hard-to-treat infections.
