According to a STAT analysis by Adam Feuerstein, Gilead Sciences executives have been emphatically bullish about the company's push into inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Speaking at recent investor conferences, they framed immunology as a core focus.

At the Cantor Global Healthcare Conference, CFO Andy Dickinson described Gilead as the largest virology company with a robust oncology business, and said the inflammation and immunology (I&I) business is the "third leg of the stool" that the company is growing.

The comments underscore Gilead's years-long effort to diversify beyond its virology franchise. The STAT piece notes that leadership continues to talk up this ambition, even as the broader biotech sector watches for other catalysts, such as upcoming Moderna-Merck cancer vaccine data.
