A new arXiv preprint, "Knowledge as Code" (2610.27693), opens with an observation about the medium of knowledge. For millennia, it notes, knowledge has been carried by language, and large language models still put language at the center. Yet the coding agents built on these models mostly write code.
The authors describe the paper as a contribution to epistemology. The abstract breaks off at that point, so the full argument is not visible from the announcement. What is clear is the framing: a tension between the linguistic medium of LLMs and the code-producing behavior of the agents built on them.
Read narrowly, the paper is a reflection on that gap. Language models process language, but the agents they power produce programs. Whether that shift changes what knowledge is, or merely how it is expressed, is left for the full version of the paper to address.
