A new arXiv preprint tackles a practical problem in inference serving: a token budget is only useful if the model actually returns an answer within it. The authors propose a fixed-budget policy that combines two mechanisms: stopping as soon as a valid answer box appears, and a 'charged finalization cue' that forces the model to wrap up when the budget is nearly exhausted.

The policy was audited on 100 fresh, independently audited examples from the GSM8K math benchmark. The abstract, as provided, cuts off before reporting results, so this digest cannot yet summarize the outcome. The study's design, however, highlights the trade-off between answer completeness and strict budget adherence.

Because this is the only source for this digest, there are no conflicting findings to compare. The paper is available on arXiv under the identifier 2610.26384.
