Threat actors are increasingly turning to ClickFix, a social engineering tactic that tricks users into executing malicious steps, to compromise organizations. According to Dark Reading, two separate attacks demonstrate how this approach is being adapted to abuse legitimate services for persistent access.
By leveraging trusted platforms, the attackers can blend in with normal network activity and make detection more difficult. The goal in both campaigns is to maintain a long-term foothold rather than deliver a one-time payload, which raises the stakes for defenders.
Because the attacks depend on user interaction, they highlight the continued importance of security awareness training. They also show that legitimate services cannot be assumed safe, and that organizations should monitor for unusual behavior even from trusted sources.
