The hacker group CyberLeek, which previously leaked GTA 6 footage, has now threatened to release a complete playable build of the game. The group posted the threat on its website after sharing roughly 25 minutes of new footage that Eurogamer says appears legitimate and carries CyberLeek's emblem.
Unlike a typical extortion demand, CyberLeek is not asking for a direct payment. Instead, it says the full build will be released when its own cryptocurrency coin reaches a $30 million market cap. To bolster its claim, it invites doubters to request specific scenes to prove it has access to the entire game. The group also says it would back off if the game gets a physical disk release and a public apology is made.
The campaign group Stop Killing Games, which advocates for game preservation, has distanced itself from the leaks. In an August Reddit post, it told gamers not to send money or encourage CyberLeek, calling the actions illegal and expressing sympathy for Rockstar staff facing the ordeal.
Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, is reportedly trying to identify the leaker, including subpoenaing Microsoft and Discord. As with any leaked download, there is a real risk of malware or scams, and the genuine game arrives on November 19.
