Mastercard has introduced Stablecoin Security, a risk intelligence solution designed to help banks assess stablecoin payments before funds move on-chain. The service combines payment intelligence with blockchain analytics to flag fraud, scams, sanctions exposure, and other financial-crime risks across the transaction lifecycle. It is delivered through a platform-agnostic API and can be integrated into existing fraud, compliance, and case management workflows.

The announcement cites a study of 593 million stablecoin transfer events across 141 million Ethereum transactions in 2025, which found that nearly 60% were complex, multi-step transactions. That complexity makes it harder for financial institutions to evaluate risk across the full payment journey, from supplier payments to cross-border settlement. Stablecoin Security aims to close that gap by generating a risk score before a payment is completed, without requiring banks to build a separate risk operating model.

Mastercard is partnering with Borderless.xyz and Keyrails, both participants in its Start Path Blockchain and Digital Assets program. Borderless.xyz provides access to licensed stablecoin providers in more than 113 countries and 72 currencies, while Keyrails focuses on high-value cross-border trade payments in emerging markets. In 2027, Mastercard plans to expand the solution's reach through BVNK, the stablecoin infrastructure provider it acquired in August 2026.

The service builds on Mastercard's existing efforts such as Crypto Credential and Crypto Secure. It is launching first in North America, with commercial availability expected worldwide in 2027.
