New Relic has introduced Ground Truth CLI, a command-line interface that brings its observability capabilities into the terminal. The tool is designed for both human developers and AI agents, allowing them to investigate production issues, assess recovery criteria, and embed live system evidence into daily workflows without switching to the platform's web UI.
The CLI connects to New Relic's Autopilot API, NerdGraph, and memory APIs, providing a unified command-line experience. According to New Relic's Head of AI, Camden Swita, traditional observability is "trapped in the dashboard era," and the new tool aims to deliver trusted operational context directly into the environments where developers and agents work.
Key features include investigating services, logs, alerts, and changes; defining and evaluating recovery conditions from the terminal; and preserving investigation results for later review or handoff. The company illustrates the workflow with an engineer investigating increased checkout errors, then checking whether an error-rate threshold is met after a change.
