Thales has announced Sentinel Envelope Plus, an extension of its Sentinel Envelope software protection offering. The tool transforms and recompiles selected parts of an application, adding layers of protection against decompilation, tampering, and runtime inspection. According to Thales, developers can apply it without changing source code or using a special compilation environment, and can choose which security-sensitive parts receive the strongest protection.

Thales says AI-assisted tools are lowering the skill and time needed to reverse engineer software, increasing risk for applications deployed on-premises, in embedded systems, and at the edge. In a controlled test described by the company, an AI agent analyzing an unprotected application identified 8 of 10 vulnerabilities. Against the same application protected with Sentinel Envelope Plus, the agent identified none, despite consuming 970 times the token budget and eventually recommending that the analysis be discontinued.

The company notes that the vulnerabilities remain in the code, but the protection makes them significantly harder to discover and exploit, buying time for vendors to remediate issues through planned release cycles. Sentinel Envelope Plus can also combine code protection with optional licensing capabilities, again without source code changes, to help safeguard proprietary algorithms and business logic.
