Microsoft has confirmed that the September 2026 Windows 11 preview update KB5124010 causes crashes in some games and applications that rely on AC-3 (Dolby Digital) audio decoding. The company acknowledged the problem over the weekend, according to a report from BleepingComputer.
Users who install the update may find that affected titles or apps crash when playing audio in AC-3 format. Because KB5124010 is a preview update, it is optional and not automatically deployed, giving users a chance to delay installation if they depend on Dolby Digital audio.
No workaround or fix has been announced yet. The source does not indicate whether the issue also affects the final, non-preview version of the update, or whether Microsoft plans to address it in a future release.
