BYD, China's electric-vehicle giant, says a shortage of ships is limiting how many cars it can sell abroad. To get around the bottleneck, the company is expanding its own cargo fleet rather than relying only on outside carriers.
The move comes as wars and instability upend freight costs and key trade routes, making international shipping more expensive and less predictable. BYD's response is to bring more of that logistics chain in-house.
By owning more of its shipping capacity, BYD aims to keep exports moving even when commercial vessels are scarce or rerouted. The expansion signals how seriously the company views logistics as a constraint on its global sales.
