A new AI tool called Raven, made by Graylark Technologies, lets police upload a single interior photo and quickly identify the exact home it was taken in. The system pulls visual clues from real estate and rental listings, including sites like Zillow and Airbnb, to match the image to a specific property. A demo video shows a photo of a washer/dryer unit being traced to a particular Airbnb listing in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Raven was previously known as GeoSpy, and 404 Media has reported that both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office have bought access to it. The new interior-geolocation feature expands the tool's reach to "millions of short-term rental units worldwide," according to Graylark CEO Daniel Heinen. The capability raises privacy concerns about how publicly available images of people's homes can be repurposed for surveillance.
