Best Buy has cut $150 off Apple's base M4 Mac Mini, bringing the 16GB/256GB desktop to $649 for the rest of the day. That makes the last-gen model far more appealing at a time when its usual $799 price was hard to justify next to the newer M6 version.

The M6 Mac Mini has been available at Amazon for $779.99, only $130 more than the M4 costs during this sale. The Verge notes that aside from the processor gains, buyers aren't missing much by choosing the M4: the design and ports are nearly identical, and both require users to supply their own display, keyboard, mouse, and webcam.

The M4 originally launched at $599 in 2024 and was widely considered an excellent value. At $649, it's only $50 above that launch price, making it a good fit for anyone who wants a modern Mac desktop while spending as little as possible. For those who want the latest performance, the M6 may be worth the extra $130.
