The secondary market for rare GameCube consoles is showing how far collectors will go for hardware with a short production run. The Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles edition, created for a Japanese magazine sweepstakes and limited to 150 units, is one of the most expensive. Two of these consoles have sold this year for over $5,000, including a recent sale at $7,500.
Another standout is the Heineken-themed GameCube, produced for a 2002 Dutch sweepstakes with only 100 units split between Indigo and Jet Black. Sellers are asking as much as $15,500 for that model. Meanwhile, the Tales of Symphonia mint green bundle, released in Japan and France with roughly 10,000 units, is more affordable but still commands up to $1,500.
Even a slightly worn Crystal Chronicles console currently listed on eBay is priced at $3,750, and it includes a Game Boy Player add-on and a copy of the game. Standard GameCube models, by contrast, remain cheap, meaning the value is tied almost entirely to rarity and branding rather than the hardware itself.
