According to Engadget, Bungie has shared more details about the next phases for its shooter Marathon, following a broader strategy announcement earlier in the week. The December Symbiosis update will add a team deathmatch mode and a permanently available PvE mode that lets players experiment with builds and practice skills without PvP pressure.

The update also overhauls the Perimeter zone with a new visual identity and encounters, including a boss called the Tick Queen. For newer players, Bungie is adding a social space with a firing range to smooth onboarding, while experienced players get a new shell archetype described as a "high-performance robot samurai."

Looking to 2027, an unnamed March update is promised to be "meaningfully larger" than Symbiosis, with an interconnected system of permanent PvE, PvP, and PvEvP experiences, more onboarding improvements, a new zone, new alien enemies, deeper shell progression, and more focused questlines and narrative. The source notes these are big promises for a game that has already faced scrutiny, and there is no independent confirmation beyond this single report.
