CNET Group has released a free app called TechPulse that aggregates content from six of its tech publications: ZDNET, CNET, PCMag, Mashable, Lifehacker, and ExtremeTech. The app is available now on iOS and Android, according to a ZDNET announcement.
Unlike algorithmic news feeds, TechPulse presents a straightforward stream of articles and videos from the selected sites. Users can choose which publications appear in the feed, from a single title to all six. The company says no subscription is needed to read or watch anything.
The launch reflects a push by the publisher to keep readers within its own ecosystem rather than losing them to aggregators or social platforms. The announcement comes from ZDNET's editor in chief, who writes that she hopes the app becomes her go-to for a quick scan of industry news. Since this is a single source, there is no independent assessment of the app's performance or user reception.
