Rocco, the maker of the retro-styled smart fridge, has introduced a lower-priced model called The Essential, according to a WIRED article. The Essential normally sells for $1,195 but is currently discounted to $1,095, while the original Classic is also on sale at $1,795, down $200 from its usual $1,995.
The Essential features a sleeker, more contemporary design than the now-rebranded Classic. It holds 77 cans to the Classic's 88 and is initially offered in three colors: Cream, Sage, and Graphite. Rocco says it uses the same compressor found in Sub-Zero fridges and reaches 34 degrees Fahrenheit, which the company calls the coldest fridge it has ever made.
The article notes that this sale is not the best Rocco has offered, but it includes a free case of Laurel's Lattes with purchases. WIRED also says it has an Essential unit on the way for testing, and the article hints that several new colors for the Classic are coming soon.
