Ema, a Mountain View-based startup founded in 2023, has raised $77 million in Series B funding led by Creaegis, with existing backers Accel, Section 32, and Prosus increasing their stakes. The round is all primary equity, bringing total funding to $140 million. The company did not disclose its latest valuation, but said it has more than quadrupled from its previous round in 2024.
Ema builds what it calls “AI employees” — systems that coordinate multiple AI agents to automate multi-step business processes in HR, IT, and finance. CEO Surojit Chatterjee says the goal is to reduce companies’ reliance on traditional SaaS products, and that some customers are already replacing large applications entirely. The startup reports more than 50 active enterprise deals, over 1 million active users, and a net dollar retention rate around 180%.
While major AI labs like Anthropic and OpenAI are also pushing into enterprise work, Chatterjee does not see them as direct competitors. Ema can draw on more than 150 models, he said, and focuses on domain knowledge, integrations, and orchestration. The company also claims gross margins near 80%, partly because its AI systems require less human support as they learn from deployments.
The fresh capital is earmarked for go-to-market expansion, especially sales and marketing, after years spent mainly on product development. Ema, which has about 200 employees and offices in Bengaluru, London, and Vancouver, plans to enter Asia-Pacific, South America, and parts of the Middle East over the next year.
