Final, a niche Japanese headphone maker, has introduced the Porta, an on-ear wireless headphone that weighs just 40 grams. The structure is built from a single piece of wire, a design loosely inspired by the lightweight headphones Sony bundled with its Walkmans decades ago. The weight is a striking contrast to competitors: Marshall's recently launched Milton A.N.C. on-ear headphones weigh 200 grams, making the Porta about one-fifth as heavy.

The Porta is available for preorder through Final's online store for 12,800 yen (around $80), with black or orange ear pads. Shipping is expected to begin on October 23. Final also operates an Amazon shop for US customers, but the Porta is not listed there yet. The company appears to be targeting users who find earbuds or clip-on styles uncomfortable and want a traditional headband without the bulk.

To achieve the low weight, Final keeps the feature set minimal. A 57mAh battery charges over USB-C and provides up to eight hours of use. The headphones pair over Bluetooth 5.4 and stream audio using the SBC and AAC codecs. An IPX4 rating means they can handle rain or sweat, but there is no active noise cancellation—a common omission for on-ear designs that don't create a full seal.

This article is based solely on The Verge's report, which provides the launch details and specifications. No other sources were available to corroborate or contrast. The business significance is that Final is betting on extreme lightness as a differentiator in a market where rivals often add weight for features like ANC and larger batteries.
