Google has introduced the Fitbit Edge, a $180 fitness tracker that sits between the budget Inspire 3 and a full-featured smartwatch like the Pixel Watch. The Edge uses a recycled aluminum case and a slightly wider AMOLED display, while the Inspire 3 remains a plastic, more rectangular device at $99.95. A Steph Curry edition costs $220.

The Edge adds several capabilities the Inspire 3 lacks, including built-in GPS, Bluetooth 5.4 for direct headphone connections, ECG-based irregular heartbeat detection, and support for more than 50 exercise modes. It also offers cardio load tracking, skin temperature sensing, and an IP68 dust-resistance rating. The Inspire 3, by contrast, tracks 20 exercise modes and has no built-in GPS.

The trade-off is battery life: Google rates the Edge at up to one week per charge, versus up to 10 days for the Inspire 3. Both devices carry a 5 ATM water-resistance rating. The Edge is best understood as a middle-ground option for buyers who want more health data and phone-free tracking without paying for a full smartwatch's price and feature set.
