JustWatch, whose guide helps 50 million people find where movies and TV shows are streaming, is becoming a streamer itself. The company is launching JustWatch TV with content from 30 partners, including Paramount, New Regency, Fremantle, Bleecker Street, and Vortex Media. The service will have an ad-supported free tier, an ad-free subscription tier called JustWatch TV Plus, and a movie rental store. It will be available within JustWatch's existing apps and website in 12 markets, including the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, France, and Australia.
The paid Plus tier is priced at $3.99 per month or $49.99 for a lifetime subscription, and in the U.S. it offers more than 300 ad-free titles plus features such as advanced filters and hiding titles the user has already seen or disliked. Rentals will initially be available in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with more markets to follow. The catalog leans on older movies and indie titles, putting the free tier in competition with Tubi and Plex and the Plus tier against low-cost services like Roku's $2.99-per-month Howdy.
JustWatch already licenses "where to watch" data to about 1,400 partner sites and apps, and says running its own service is a way to grow its audience and data. Quentin Carbonell, JustWatch SVP of global content acquisitions and strategy, called the move "a natural continuation" of the company's mission to serve the streaming ecosystem. One differentiator: users can request titles they want to see, giving them some influence over what gets added.
