OpenAI announced voice-based agentic features for its mobile app, enabling subscribers to trigger workflows like drafting documents, summarizing emails, or summarizing Slack messages directly from their phones. The features are rolling out to Plus and Pro users via the Work tab.

Free and Go users will get access to plugins and connected apps instead. OpenAI also said voice conversations will have richer text output, and users can switch between text and voice easily. The update builds on GPT-Live, the conversational model launched in July, which was previously integrated with desktop.

The move puts OpenAI in direct competition with Anthropic, which recently improved mobile-to-desktop handoff and merged its Cowork and Chat interfaces. However, OpenAI is keeping chat and workspaces separate. The source is a single TechCrunch report, so no conflicting details are available.
