A plug-in hybrid BYD Denza B8 has become the center of an online video that appears to show its driver evading a parking boot. The footage, circulating on Chinese social media, shows the SUV rolling down a public street on three wheels, with a yellow-and-red traffic clamp still attached to the raised front-left wheel. Electrek notes that the clip's authenticity is unconfirmed, but the trick is technically plausible given the vehicle's hardware.

The Denza B8 uses BYD's DiSus-P Ultra hydraulic suspension, which can independently raise or lower each corner of the vehicle by up to 300 mm and lift as much as nine metric tons. BYD has already demonstrated the SUV driving at up to 15 km/h on three wheels and lifting a wheel to change a tire without a jack. The driver in the video appears to have applied the same capability to simply drive away from a parking violation.

The vehicle itself is a three-row plug-in hybrid with a 46.7 kWh battery, good for about 75 miles of electric-only range on the CLTC cycle, backed by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine for a combined range of roughly 850 miles. If the video is genuine, it offers a novel—if questionable—use for advanced suspension technology in an electrified SUV.
