Avicena, based in Sunnyvale, Calif., announced on Sept. 18 that it will demonstrate what it calls the industry's first connectorized microLED optical interconnect at ECOC 2026. The demonstration is based on the new LightBundle eKit implementation, which combines Avicena's high-density, laser-free microLED transceiver technology with a connectorized design.

MicroLED optical links are of growing interest for compute systems because they avoid the lasers used in many conventional optical interconnects. Avicena says the connectorized eKit is a step toward making the LightBundle architecture practical for broader use, though the announcement does not disclose performance figures or a general availability date.
