India's outsourced software industry grew 9.5 percent in the latest fiscal year, reaching $239 billion, according to industry figures reported by The Register. The segment covers traditional IT services and business process outsourcing, which remain the backbone of the country's tech export economy.
By contrast, the software product development industry contracted a little. That mixed result suggests the overall market is still expanding, even as one part of it loses ground. The Register notes that if AI has dented prospects for Indian software firms, it is not visible in these numbers.
The data therefore paints a picture of resilience in the face of AI anxiety, but also of a shifting landscape where product work is already under pressure. Whether the effects of AI will show up in future figures remains an open question.
