The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has expanded to an eighth province in the country's north, according to a MedPage Today news roundup. The outbreak has now recorded at least 9,400 confirmed cases and more than 4,500 deaths.
In neighboring Kenya, eight Ebola cases have been reported, but health officials say there is no evidence of community transmission. Meanwhile, the Africa CDC reports that over $700 million in donor money for Ebola response in Congo remains unaccounted for, though it is too soon to conclude that the funds were embezzled.
The roundup also noted that the World Health Organization has reported eight cases of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus in Saudi Arabia in 2026, including one death. That is a separate outbreak, but it underscores ongoing infectious disease threats in the region.
