NASA's Curiosity rover has now spent 5,000 Martian days on Mars, and to mark the milestone it sent back a panorama assembled from morning and afternoon images. The blended view acts like a postcard: it shows the rover, its wheel tracks, and the broad terrain around Mount Sharp and Gale Crater.
According to ScienceDaily, the scene was created by combining separate captures from different times of day, giving the landscape a striking contrast in lighting. The rover remains active in the crater region it has been exploring since landing, and the new image offers a wide-angle look at its current surroundings.
