German electric motorcycle startup NOVUS has closed a funding round worth "double-digit millions of dollars" to support its entry into the US market in 2027 and continued growth in Europe. The announcement follows the start of series production for the NOVUS One, with European customer deliveries already underway earlier this year.
The NOVUS One is distinguished by a carbon fiber monocoque frame that leaves a large opening through the middle of the bike. Designed by former Volkswagen lead designer René Renger, the machine weighs just 121 kg and uses a hub-mounted drivetrain producing up to 25 kW of peak power and 430 Nm of torque. That is enough for 0-50 km/h in under two seconds, a top speed of 130 km/h, and a claimed 150 km of city range from a 6.2 kWh battery.
The company positions the NOVUS One as a "Lightbike," aiming to attract riders who might not otherwise consider a motorcycle. Its software can configure the same hardware for full-power or scooter-class licensing, and it includes features like smartphone integration and over-the-air updates. The main hurdle is price: the Founders Edition starts at €21,300 before tax. NOVUS says a second model, the NOVUS Two, is in development for late 2027 with a "significantly lower" entry price, and that model may determine whether the company converts curiosity into lasting sales.
