Replit CEO and co-founder Amjad Masad used a TechCrunch Disrupt stage to argue that the future of work is the "self-driving company." In his telling, AI agents are becoming reliable enough to perform much of the routine work inside businesses, while people increasingly contribute through judgment, taste, and high-level choices about what to build.
Masad said Replit itself has already changed how it operates. When support tickets arrive, an agent examines the codebase, GitHub issues, and Linear tickets before a human takes over with fuller context. If the support person decides to fix something, deploying another agent to apply the patch is one click. "Agents did most of the work, but crucially, there's human judgment in the middle," he said.
Rather than taking jobs, Masad said agents are shifting what people do. He described more discussion, more whiteboarding, and more focus on architecture inside his company. He also said businesses are asking how AI can make workers more productive and less bored. "There's a positive vision of the world that Silicon Valley is not really putting out," he added.
