Shelly has introduced the Presence Gen4, a smart home sensor that uses mmWave radar to detect up to 10 people simultaneously without relying on a camera. Priced at $84.99, the device is available today through Shelly’s online store and is expected to reach retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy soon.
The sensor can be placed on a shelf or mounted to a wall, covering spaces up to 650 square feet with a 140-degree horizontal field of view. It requires a USB-C power connection and supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, and Matter, making it compatible with Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant.
Users can set up to 10 independent detection zones, so automations like lights, heating, or music can respond to specific locations—for example, turning on a lamp only when someone sits at a desk. The sensor can also include pets in detection or be adjusted to ignore low-lying objects such as a robot vacuum.
Shelly’s announcement follows last month’s launch of its $50 subscription-free security camera. The Presence Gen4 offers a privacy-focused alternative for presence detection, since it tracks movement and activity without recording video.
